ASTM A 1023 Wire Rope
ASTM A1023 6x24 Fiber Core Flexible Lifting Wire Rope
The ASTM A 1023 classification 6x24 fiber core steel wire rope is a reliable and well-structured product.
In terms of construction, it consists of 6 strands, with each strand containing 24 wires. There is 1 layer of strands and 2 layers of wire within each strand. Excluding the steel core, there are 144 wires in the rope. Different typical examples of this rope exist, such as the 6X24 (2 operation) Hawser Rope FC with 90 outer wires in total and 15 per strand, 6X24W with 96 outer wires, and 6X24S with 72 outer wires.
This wire rope comes in a range of nominal diameters. Measured in inches, it ranges from 3/8 (9.5 mm) to 2 (50.8 mm) and even up to 2 - 1/16 (52.4 mm). Along with the diameter, it has corresponding approximate nominal length mass values, from 0.289 kg/m for the 3/8 - inch diameter rope to 8.734 kg/m for the 2 - 1/16 - inch diameter rope. The minimum breaking force varies from 4.77 tons (which can be converted to kilonewtons by multiplying by 8.896) for the smallest diameter to 134 tons for the 2 - 1/16 - inch diameter rope, making it suitable for various applications depending on the load-bearing requirements.
