The ASTM A 1023 classification 8x19 steel core is a high-quality steel wire rope with specific construction details. It consists of 8 strands, with each strand containing 15 to 26 wires. There is 1 layer of strands, and the outer strands number 8. The outer wires per strand range from 7 to 12, and there are 2 to 3 layers of wire. Excluding the steel core, there are 120 to 232 wires in the rope.

This steel core wire rope comes in various nominal rope diameters. For example, diameters range from 6 mm to 48 mm. Along with different diameters, it has corresponding approximate nominal length masses and minimum breaking forces. The minimum breaking force varies depending on the grade such as IPS (1770), EIP (1960), and EEIP (2160).
