ASTM A 1023 Wire Rope
ASTM A1023 Galvanized 7X7 7X19 Small Diameter Flexible Specialty Wire Rope
The ASTM A 1023 classification 6x7 steel core is a high-quality steel wire rope. Its construction features 6 strands, with each strand containing 5 to 9 wires, resulting in a total of 30 to 54 wires in the rope (excluding the steel core). There is 1 layer of strands and 1 layer of wire per strand.
In terms of its cross-section, it has a well-defined structure as detailed in the construction example. A typical example of the rope is the 6X7 configuration with a steel core.
When it comes to its physical properties, the rope is available in various nominal diameters. For instance, one of the size options has a diameter of 6 mm (equivalent to 1/4 in). It has a reference weight of around 0.144 kg/m (0.1 lb/ft). In terms of strength, it offers different minimum breaking force ratings depending on the grade. At the 1770 EIP grade, it has a minimum breaking force of 22.9 KN, and at 1960 EIP, it's 25.3 KN. This makes it suitable for a wide range of applications where reliable and strong steel wire ropes are required.
