ASTM A 1023 Wire Rope
ASTM A1023 19x7 Rotation Resistant Category 2 Steel Wire Rope
The ASTM A 1023 classification 19x7 rotation-resistant--category 2 is a high-quality steel wire rope. In terms of its construction, the rope typically consists of 17 to 18 strands, with 10 to 13 outer strands and 2 layers of strands. Excluding the steel core, it contains 85 to 126 wires. Each strand has 5 to 7 wires, with 4 to 6 outer wires and 1 layer of wire.
It comes in a range of nominal rope diameters. For example, diameters range from 6 mm to larger sizes like 36 mm. Along with the diameter, it has corresponding reference weights. The fiber reference weight can range from 0.144 kg/m for a 6-mm diameter rope to 5.171 kg/m for a 36-mm diameter one.
The rope also has specified minimum breaking forces. For instance, at an intermediate diameter like 12 mm, the minimum breaking force can be around 83.6 KN (IPS at 1770) and 92.6 KN (EIP at 1960). Note that for final - galvanized ropes, the minimum breaking force is 10% lower than the listed values.
